Discussion:
Yamaha RX-N600 Network problem
(too old to reply)

I just purchased a Yamaha RX-N600 and have had no success in getting it
connected to my network, but I am not very network literate.
I have found a link to download the revised firmware (with step-by-step
instructions) here: http://rapidshare.com/files/1294703...date-7.6.13.zip
which I believe resolves the compatibility issue with WMP11.

My RX-N600 connects fine with the internet radio, and the Receiver USB
drive, but I
cannot get it to work via WMP11. Is there anyone who can help with some
pointers on how to set up the connection (ethernet) and some checks to where
my connection may be wrongly configured?

Many thanks

There are quite a few problem solving steps listed in the FAQ, here :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sharing.mspx

I'd try the bits on digital media receivers. Unfortunately with no
information about what you've tried yet, does not work isn't going to
get many helpful answers ;-)

Have a go with the steps in the FAQ, and post any questions you have
if it isn't resolved then. I was speaking to a Yahama guy at a trade
show last week, he seemed confident there are no overriding reasons
why the N600 can't be used once the USB patch is applied to it.

Thanks Neil,

Having applied the Yamaha patch, I was just wondering if there was any
reason iot wouldn't be compatible in Australia - where i am. I can't see any
reason, but just checking.

I removed my WMP11 and reinstalled thinking it may solve the problem, but
now cannot "see" the Yamaha as a device in WMP under media sharing. Should it
typically be identified automatically on the network? The RX-N600 manual
states it uses DHCP which I understand automatically sets the required
parameters from my router to my PC (where the music files are stored). I am
using a hardwired connection, not wireless if that helps), and I have set my
PC to share the media via a 4 port router (Netcomm NB9). My laptop when
connected to one of the router ports works fine and both PCs see each other,
but not the Yamaha.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

That's one of the things I discussed with the guy. Apparently the UK
receivers have DAB radio, as well as some other minor hardware
differences - possibly to change the sound balance for UK
sensibilities.

So it *may* not work to take a USA patch and apply it to the receiver.

To confirm that - the advice I got was to obtain the USB image from
one of the local (regional) dealers not uswe one from another
territory. You may disable some localised functionality by doing so.

I was specifically referring to WMP11 and any localised patch in the
discussion below about upgrading the receiver <g>

If you can login to your router's web control page, normally it'll

Thanks for your time. In response to your questions:

Neil: It should at least be "seen", yes. Which firewall are you running?
A: I am running the Normal XP firewall - I will check at home tonight and
confirm that the recommended ports are open (that in itself will test my
abilities). When you say "seen", should I be able to see the RX-N600 in "My
Network Places" if it has connected correctly, or would I only see the files
on the network receiver? I still cannot see the receiver in WMP11 as the
"unknown device I had previously, so suspect it is still in the relms of a
network related issue.

Neil: Try adding the local zone to the trusted connections available (eg if
your network is 192.168.10.x then add the subnet 192.168.10 to the firewall)
A: Will try that.

A: I have lost touch with what I have tried - seem to be chasing my tail and
not sure exactly where the problem lies between RX-N600 firmware, WMP11, or
the network somewhere.
Thanks for the support anyway.

You'll need to get the firmware upgrade from Yamaha. They sent it to me in one day. It takes 5 minutes to download and install on your receiver.

You have to share the folders containing your music files - this can be done in WMP11 (can't remember the exact steps offhand but it is fairly logical). Good luck

To share the folders in WMP11 go Library/Media Sharing and check the checkbox
"Share my media".

I have done that but still have the same problem as you - internet radio and
USB great but no connection to the MP3s on my PC, even with the firmware
upgrade.

Have managed to get it working by using a crossover cable directly from the
RX-N600 to my laptop. It all works fine proving both the Yamaha and the WMP11
comms. I did away with DHCP and used static IP addresses to try and have some
sort of control over the outcome.

There is obviously an issue with the router. I have no idea where to start
here with a zillion setting options that I know little about (just learned
how to "Ping")!

If the Yamaha is receiving Internet Radio via the router (which it is) I
guess it is not a major problem, but more a small setting somewhere - but
which???

Hello there

I have just purchased a RX-N600. Internet radio works no problem.

I can ping the receiver from my laptop and see that it has been given an IP
address by my router. I cannot however see the receiver in WMP11 or anywhere
on my laptop.

Nor can I see my Laptop on the receiver.

You seem to have had similar problems and I am wondering how you solved them.

There was a firmware update for that device last December :

Have a call to your dealer to see if they've got it installed on the
N600, or whether you have to take it in for the upgrade (usually just
a USB key in the back, and a few tweaks of settings)
