WMP 11 - Default Album Art??

Hi all,

Just needing to know if there's a way to restore incorrect album art
thumbnails in WMP 11 back to the default image?

I understand you can change the image manually but sometimes I don't have
the image and I'm unable to locate it online. I've searched for a default
thumbnail via Program Files etc but unable to locate it. Probably a simple
explanation. I'm feeling noobish on this one and it's doing my head in.

I'd much rather leave the default image than to use one that is incorrect.

It would be nice to have a restore option in advanced tag editor!

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

FWIW, The design team for album art at Microsoft has generally stated that
people plugging into the system in any conduit other than Windows Media
Player are generally unsupported. If Album Art is plugged in to the file
using Windows Media Player 11, it should all work dandily. If people try to
plug into the system using the various third party interpretations of the
scheme, there may be problems.

I don't think that's been very clear, but if you bear the above in mind...
it makes a lot more sense overall. Maybe not the sense any particular
person/group wants it to be, but then again some of these issues can get
pretty complex in a hurry and you have to make calls one way or the other.

All of the steps you outline work until you start WMP 11 again. Then WMP
11
will replace the Folder.jpg you created with its own version. If you
deleted
the file, WMP 11 will just add it back. The note image is built into
WMP11
and not a "default" image that you can assign to an album. It is only
used
by WMP11 when WMP11 can't find the album art.
Embedded artwork outranks Folder.jpg for displaying album art in the album
art visualization but does not outrank the album art for the Albums
display
in WMP. Nor does embedding the artwork prevent WMP from replacing your
file
if you have custom Folder.jpg images in your library.

If I have this right WMP11 is putting album art to folders and it isn't
the
right 1 and you want to put it back to default to what WMP puts it as. If
I
am right in saying it's usally a music note from a sheet of music.
If a complete ripped album has the wrong cover WMP puts the album cover
what
it thinks is right to the songs in that folder. To change it back to
default
create a new folder in MY DOCUMENTS (name it to the album name etc) and
the
move all the tunes with the wrong album cover to it then delete the old
folder and go into WMP and delete the songs (WMP11 should auto remove
them)
now move the new 1 to MY MUSIC. Once it's moved back to MY MUSIC WMP11
should
put them back into your library. Without the wrong album art it was doing
before also make sure the settings under PRIVACY >> UPDATE MEDIA FILES
FROM
INTERNET in OPTIONS is set to disable.
If this dosn't solve the problem and it's done it again with the method
above open the album folder. Go to TOOLS >> FOLDER OPTIONS >> VIEW TAB >>
CLICK ON SHOW HIDDEN FILES IN FOLDERS >> you showed see a file called
FOLDER.JPG and another file delete them both and that should also do it.
Also want CD-COVER art go to www.CD-COVERED.COM there full cover sizes
all
you have to do is go to ADVANCED TAG EDITOR and select PICTURES and find
the
cover front and your done.
Unfortunately, there is not much you can do in WMP 11 to prevent it
from
putting its album art in your folders.
1. Disable all access to the Internet for your WMP11 PC.
or
2. Set the NTFS permissions on Folder.jpg for each album folder
such
that no account, including all users, system, etc, has modify or write
access
to the file.
Other than that, as far as my tests have shown - and I've tested
extensively, WMP will always replace Folder.jpg with its own version -
right
or wrong.

What you said works for adding album art in WMP because WMP adds the album
art as an embedded picture in the file and WMP gives priority to the
embedded art over what is in Folder.jpg.

And what about Folder.jpg? Adding a Folder.jpg image to a folder as a
customization is a documented and supported feature of Windows. So for
Windows Media Player to replace that file is still a problem. Offering to
add Folder.jpg where there is no existing file is a benefit. Replacing the
existing file where I have used the built-in and supported functionality of
Windows just doesn't make sense. If I have an embedded CD cover image in
the files, what is it that WMP thinks it is offering me by replacing my
Windows folder customization?

under TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS - VIEW -

Turn on the option:

Show hidden files and folders

and turn off the options

Hide extensions for known file types
Hide protected operation systems files (Recommended)

Now you can see the various files created by WMP.

Did anyone find an answer to the wrong album art showing up all over the place? I just downloaded media player 11 today and all unknown albums grabbed some Willy Nelson album art and it's everywhere.
